S-Adenosyl-methionine (SAMe) is a naturally occurring substance that plays an important role in metabolism by donating methyl groups. This amino acid derivative is produced from ATP (adenosine triphosphate) and the essential amino acid methionine, with the release of pyrophosphate and phosphate. Unlike its precursor methionine, SAMe is found in very small amounts in food and requires vitamins B12 and folic acid for its synthesis within the body. Pure Encapsulations® SAMe (S-Adenosyl-methionine) is formulated using innovative galenics, such as DRcaps®, to protect the sensitive ingredient from stomach acid.
